Sandals Negril is located on the northwestern side of Jamaica along the famous 7-mile beach. The resort is for couples only and is a popular honeymoon destination for newly married couples. As an all-inclusive resort, all food, drinks (including alcohol) and most activities are included in the price. Tips for the attentive staff are not allowed.
Transportation to the Sandals Resort
When arriving at the airport in Montego Bay, there is a lounge for Sandals guests. The lounge provides refreshments including Red Stripe beer on tap. Guests are ushered outside to a bus waiting to take them to their chosen Sandals resort. The trip to Negril is rather long and takes the better part of two hours. During the ride, the driver entertains with facts about Jamaica and it serves as a mini tour of the island. Air transportation is also available from Montego Bay to Negril for a small fee. However, while taking advantage of this option is a quicker way to get to the resort, it does not allow an up close and personal view of the local people and towns.
Room Types at Sandals Negril
Sandals Negril offers a variety of room types at the resort. All rooms include air-conditioning, king size beds and a private bath. Suites at the resort are larger and also include sitting areas. In addition, all suite category rooms include butler concierge service as well as 24-hour room service. The butler is there to take care of every need or whim during the stay including booking excursions and ensuring reservations are made at the resort restaurants. Views range from the gardens to the pool to oceanfront. Prices for rooms vary according to the size of the room along with the view.
Six Gourmet Dining Options
There are six gourmet restaurants on site to choose from for dining. The Bayside features buffet style meals and is great for starting the day. Two other restaurants offer lunch and dinner options with a resort casual dress code. For a more intimate and dressier setting, visit Kimonos, where reservations are required, or the Sundowner. The Sandals Café is beachside and offers traditional American foods as well as Jamaican jerk chicken throughout the day and into the night. Special private dinners on the beach can be arranged for an extra charge. In addition, there are five bars including a piano bar. The bartenders are experienced in making a variety of alcoholic drinks and offer a friendly atmosphere.
Activities at the Luxury Resort
In addition to the famous 7-mile beach, Sandals Negril also offers two large pools, windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailboats, kayaks, tennis, volleyball, racquetball and more. All of these activities are included in the all-in-one price. In order to scuba dive, certification is required and can be provided by the resort for a small fee. There is a daily menu of group activities at the resort as well as nightly entertainment ranging from variety shows to bands featuring the music of steel drums.
Other Sandals Negril Services
The resort staff can arrange day trips to explore Jamaica for an extra fee. Trips include traveling to the straw market, Dunn’s River Falls, horseback riding, tubing and zip-line canopy tours. These tours are operated by local operators and will provide round trip service to and from the resort.
One added benefit to staying at a Sandals resort is the stay at one, play at all privileges that are included. When staying at one resort, guests can take advantage of amenities at any of the other resorts with free transfers between resorts. Beaches Negril is a short drive away and offers additional restaurants and activities. However, Beaches does allow children so the atmosphere is different than that at the adults only Sandals resorts.
Tips For Your All-Inclusive Vacation
Get to the beach early to claim lounge chairs and be aware that while the beach is private, the ocean is not. Locals will often approach guests when in the water to sell their wares. During sunny days, there are more than enough activities to provide entertainment. However, when rain approaches, entertainment diminishes and most couples retreat to the comfort of their rooms or suites.
