Top Six Things to do in Treasure Beach JamaicaTreasure Beach is a Relaxing Getaway on the Jamaican South Coast
Treasure Beach is a small town on the South Coast offering a taste of Jamaican fishing villages, black sand beaches, fresh seafood and fun seaside activities and tours.
Located on the South Coast of Jamaica and in the parish of Saint Elizabeth, the small town of Treasure Beach is a popular choice among those seeking rest, quiet and rejuvenation. About a two-hour drive from Negril, or four hours from Montego Bay, it makes for a great week-long or weekend getaway. Treasure Beach is a wonderful community of sleepy fishing villages offering a host of outdoor activities and tours. But there are six things not to be missed when visiting this area. Stay At Taino CoveTaino Cove is everyone's dream beach side vacation home. Regal front gates and an expansive driveway lead to the main house, which looks more like a mansion. A warmly-decorated living room area awaits to receive guests or to be enjoyed for a quiet day of reading. Across from the living room and sitting areas are French sliding doors, which lead to the true beauty of Taino Cove: cozy rooms adjacent to a pool overlooking the sea. It's a horizon of blue all around. Taino Cove offers six guest bedrooms and two larger suites, on ground and upper levels, all with private patios or balconies. The small beach hotel runs its own kitchen and bar - with meals home made and prepared in advance per your request and fancy. There is also a stand-alone cottage - more like a small house - on the grounds, available for rent. It's truly easy to forget the rest of Jamaica exists when staying at Taino Cove. Colorful steps at the back of the property put you directly on the beach, for a nice long stroll all the way along the Treasure Beach coast. Taino Cove also arranges for tours or drivers for the guests, and ensures that everyone's stay is as magical as the property. Spend An Afternoon at Pelican Bar Pelican Bar is a thatch-hut wooden bar set in the sea, with nothing around but turquoise waters and just a couple miles to its side, pelicans. About a forty minute boat ride from Treasure Beach, folks can spend the entire day at this idyllic spot and have drinks, lunch, swim or snorkel. Or, just sit on the steps and gaze out at the calm sea. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that can't be missed. Information on reaching Pelican Bar can be obtained from the various hotels in the area. Have Lunch at Jack SpratAdjacent to Jake's Resort, Jack Sprat is a popular Treasure Beach lunch spot for visitors. Located directly on the beach, and in a casual cafe-style table seating both indoors and out, Jack Sprat's menu offers a wide variety of choices - pizza, sandwiches, pastry, ice cream or seafood. There is a small pathway off Jack Sprat that leads into Jake's. Experience A Heavenly Facial at Driftwood SpaDriftwood Spa, a part of Jake's Resort, is a treat for those seeking massages or facials during their stay. The facilities are fairly basic, with no locker rooms or tubs to soak in pre-treatment. But the treatment rooms themselves are well-designed. The beds lie facing open double doors, and a direct view of the beach and sea. The beach section facing the spa is closed off to prevent any intrusion. A must-try at Driftwood is the Caribbean Facial, which includes a hair oil massage, neck and shoulder rub and a warm honey lip treatment. Enjoy A Magical Sunset At Lovers' LeapLovers' Leap, also in the parish of Saint Elizabeth and near Treasure Beach, is a 1700 feet cliff overlooking the Caribbean sea. Legend has it that two slave lovers jumped to their deaths from this cliff, to escape their master who wanted the girl for himself. It's a beautiful place to watch the sun set and the entrance fee is small (about US $2). There is a full service restaurant on site with indoor seating and doors leading to the terrace where the stunning Lovers' Leap view awaits. Savor The Best Of Seafood at Little Ochie RestaurantLittle Ochie Restaurant is a seafood lover's paradise, popular among Jamaicans who will drive for hours to come and eat here on the weekends. Placing an order means selecting the type of dish you would like - for instance, jerk fish - and then selecting the type of fish you want. After placing an order, drinks can be ordered from the bar, and folks can then head outside, where there are strategically placed huts - designed in the shape of fishing boats - with tables and benches, and located directly on the beach. There's nothing qite like having fresh seafood right by the sea. For additional information on Treasure Beach, there is an excellent online guide.
